The Student Skills Demo is an engaging student activity that helps students develop their construction skills and strengthens workforce development efforts. Teams will showcase their abilities by framing walls and installing sheathing, exterior siding and trim, and framing in a window. These participants will demonstrate accuracy, ability to read and interpret blueprints, workmanship, safety, and the proper use of tools, equipment and materials.

The goal is to have at least a dozen student teams construct playhouses that can be donated to various originations for use or to be sold as a fundraising opportunity.

The Skills Demo is also seeking builders and remodelers to be a team mentor. Mentors are paired with a team, and are asked if possible to attend a planning meeting on the activity and meet with the instructor/team at their school to prepare for the activity. Mentors will also be alongside their team during the activity from overview to debrief/wrap-up. Note: this will limit your opportunity to visit exhibit booths until conclusion of the skills demo activity.

If you have a team that would like to participate or would like to be a team mentor. Please contact Tom Gavaras, tom@batc.org or 651-697-7592.
